After finding bloody rags at Foster Beach, remains in the freezer were assumed to be those of a lady.
CHICAGO — Police say they have a suspect in custody after finding human remains inside a freezer on the city’s North Side. Around 7 p.m. on Monday, police were summoned to the 5900 block of North Washtenaw after receiving a report from a tenant that the home’s owner, a lady, had been gone for about 24 hours. At a press conference on Tuesday, CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said that when officers arrived, the renter who had phoned the police reported that other tenants were terrified of someone who lived in the house.
According to the renter, the person summoned a tow truck and brought a large bag out to the car, Deenihan said. The tow truck driver allegedly informed investigators that the passenger he was hauling allegedly pulled a knife on him, according to detectives. The person, who has not yet been identified, was taken into custody for assault once officers responded. Detectives later discovered that the offender had thrown bloodied rags and a sizable plastic bag into a trash bin at Foster Beach. According to Deenihan, the location was guarded, and the trash can was brought to the medical examiner’s office.
Detectives returned to the house using that evidence and found human remains inside the freezer. The missing woman’s remains may be found, according to police. A neighbor told WGN News, “Very pleasant, very kind, really sweet woman.” They claimed that the woman played the organ in a few nearby churches. Detectives have carried out a search warrant and are looking into a homicide. According to Deenihan, the assault suspect who was detained exercised their right to remain silent.
