North Geelong Warriors FC would like to extend its heartfelt sorrow to the Volarević family on the passing of Mirko.
Many of us will have known Mirko over the years as a person committed to his faith and family, hard working and a patriotic Croatian and Australian.
He forged himself a successful business in building with Mirko Homes as well as the extended business of Volare Tiles and Flooring, both committed sponsors for many years to the North Geelong Warriors.
Mirko’s family was ever present at all the Croatian Community events and support for recognition of their homeland in the most difficult of times, during the War of Independence.
The family volunteered their time and efforts to building facilities and infrastructure for today’s families to enjoy as well as being a source of employment to many involved in our club and the broader community in Geelong.
Mirko set a fine example and today his family involvement at our club continues on, with son Ivica as Vice President and daughter in law Maree on the committee and ever-present volunteering whilst Mirko’s grand children all run out for the beloved Red, White and Blue.
He was born in Prud, Metkovic, Croatia the 10th Nov 1944 and passed away in Croatia on the 12th October 2022.
Mirko leaves behind his wife Stoja, children Ivica, Iva and Entoni and their families and extended families.
May he now rest in God’s eternal peace and we thank him for all his endeavour and spirit of adventure to set a great example for his family and generations to come.
There is a Rosary being held in Prud on Monday to pay respects to Mirko.
