Just learned of the passing of someone I considered a mentor, a professor and a friend. Kevin Salemme passed away this morning. It’s hard to put into words how much this man was such an instrumental part of not only my time at Merrimack College but in my career here in Hollywood.
After deciding to go to Merrimack for my undergrad I met Kevin who ran the media center and gave me the keys to MCTV-10 a small TV station on campus that had no one commanding or organizing anything for a long time. Kevin got to see how much i enjoyed making TV shows. He would teach me everything that know from setting up a stage, hooking up a microphone, making a background out of green screen to setting up shots when we had no camera operators ,to editing the show and making the sure the show was able to be broadcasted for my 7pm time slot. I was so proud of the work we made at the station and all the students who helped create content during my 4 years.
During my junior and senior years he accompanied our station to LA where we attended TV shows like the Price is Right and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
A few months ago Kevin and I spoke and he was excited to share all the success that the college TV station is having again. As I begin my 17th year here in Hollywood, I am forever grateful to have had Kevin as someone who would let me grow and find my passion of TV at Merrimack
