Jefferson Middle School Oceanside, Three Schools In Oceanside Are Placed On Lockdown After A Phone Call, But Police Say There Is No Threat

Jefferson Middle School Oceanside — An anonymous caller reported a threat to a middle school site in the city’s north, prompting the lockdown of three Oceanside schools late on Friday morning, according to a police spokesperson. According to spokesperson Jennifer Atenza, the call came in on the police department’s non-emergency line at around 11:15 a.m. She stated that a “possible threat to student safety” had been raised by the caller at Jefferson Middle School. She couldn’t immediately provide more information on the danger.

Officers reacted right away, she claimed.

Lockdown was implemented at Jefferson Middle School, which is located on Acacia Avenue, north of Mission Avenue, and immediately off North Carey Road. Given their proximity to Jefferson, nearby campuses of Mission Elementary and Clair W. Burgener Academy were also secured. “Officers methodically went through Jefferson Middle School and were able to identify that there was no threat to student safety,” she said. Police also checked the other two campuses and cleared them as well.

The lockdown was lifted before 1:45 p.m. Atenza said there a heavy police presence will remain at the campuses through the remainder of the school day Friday.
