Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro, has identified the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford as players he can help this season.
Casemiro said this while opening up on the role being asked of him by Man United manager Erik ten Hag at the club.
He claimed Ronaldo, Sancho, Fernandes and Rashford are on the pitch to score goals, so he defends to provide balance to the team to help his Red Devils teammates achieve their aim.
The Brazilian’s arrival at Old Trafford this summer saw Ten Hag strengthen his midfield with a much-needed combination of steel and experience.
“I think the goals have to come naturally. Everybody knows my work. My role is defensive — to help my teammates and bring the ball out from the back with quality. That’s my job, if goals come from it, excellent. We have other players whose first thought is to be scoring goals,” Casemiro told the club’s in-house media ahead of their Europa League tie with Omonoia on Thursday.
“There’s Cris [Cristiano Ronaldo], [Jadon] Sancho, [Marcus] Rashford and Bruno [Fernandes]. They are on the pitch to score goals. I defend, first of all, and provide balance to the team.
“I help my teammates with defensive work, bring the ball out with quality, that is my job. Of course, a goal here or there is nice but doing my job and defending well comes first.”
