Charter boat captains and recreational anglers are raising a red flag concerning dwindling mahi mahi numbers and are blaming the longline fleets for the decline.

An 11-mile-long pelagic longline can have as many as 1,100 large J hooks that snare the bright blue and yellow migratory fish.
