A car accident on the Barton Highway near Yass this morning claimed the life of one man and critically injured another. Emergency services were summoned to the site of a two-car collision near Gounyan Road at around 6:15 am, according to NSW Police. They claimed the driver of one of the cars had passed away at the scene and was yet unidentified. Fire and Rescue NSW had to release the imprisoned Toyota Hilux driver, who was driving the second vehicle.
He was in a critical but stable condition when he was transported to the Canberra Hospital. Emergency services said that it was unknown when the Barton Highway will reopen and that it was currently closed in both directions. The area has been deemed a crime scene and will be examined by specialist forensic police. NSW Police is urging any witnesses to the accident, including motorists with dashcam vision, to call Yass Police.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
